pastels and charcoal

I use both traditional pastel paper and also prepared mat-boards for my pastels. I am interested in how color layering is affected by surface texture. Some pieces shown here are on rough board that allows me to work quickly and spontaneously. I try to capture the essence of my subject: the intensity of a gaze, the softness of belly fur, the golden surface of an onion skin.
